Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT TILES:
Q: What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?
According to the Italian Trade Commission, ‘Ceramic Tile is a generic name for ceramic surfacing units that are relatively thin in relation to facial area; made from clay or a mixture of clay, and other ceramic material.”
“Porcelain is a type of ceramic tile having specific properties. ANSI A137.1 American National Standard Specifications for Ceramic Tile defines porcelain tiles as being dense, smooth and impervious with water absorption of .5 percent or less.”
Q: Do I need to do anything before coming in to choose tiles?
It is best to have your measurements with you when you come in to browse our showroom so that our sales staff can easily give you a quote for your area. It is also best to let us know what type of surface they are going on, whether it is concrete, over other tiles, an uneven surface etc. If you would like extra added in, you must advise us how much extra to add in. It is best to consult with a tile layer/contractor to confirm your measurements.
Q: At what stage during my project should I come into your showroom to choose tiles?
It is always best to allow ample time when completing any type of project. If you know far in advance that you are going to undertake some sort of project, it is never too early to come in to get some ideas of what you would want. Coming in early also allows time in the event that you would need to special order any materials.
Q: What should I use for everyday cleaning of my porcelain/ceramic tiles?
Everyday cleaners should be acid-free and oil-free. Nassau Tile recommends using our Aquamix line of cleaning products, especially the Concentrated Tile cleaner for basic cleaning. It is also best to change out your household mop about once a month to avoid spreading more dirt. We also recommend changing the water you use to clean about every 100 square feet or every room.

Please consult a sales representative at Nassau Tile for recommendations based on your specific needs. The Aquamix Heavy Duty Tile Cleaner is excellent for removing general dirt and other buildup. For cleaning and maintaining grout, we recommend the Aquamix Grout 1&2 Deep Clean. For more information about our Aquamix cleaning products and recommendations, please visit www.aquamix.com.
